History of the Snowman

eckstein_sn_1Being the world's only "snowman expert" is not something Bob Eckstein ever planned, but in 2000 the illustrator and former teacher became a gentleman scholar, dedicating his life to answering a simple question: "Who made the first snowman?"

This was his personal Holy Grail while traveling to the world's higher institutes and art museums. His quest produced the popular book, "The History of the Snowman," and now Eckstein lectures on the subject. He's currently working on a movie based on the book after collecting some 800 snowman artifacts and antiques. Between now and Christmas, dscriber will post the Top ten most interesting items in Eckstein's collection.

Eckstein: I haven't published this wonderful photograph before because I, unfortunately, have no information on it -- it was given to me by a stranger who knew I was researching the subject... a great example of snowman making in early America.
